The term "49 Fine" is our reference to the most common purity level of gold and silver products on the market today, which is 9,999 parts per 10,000 or 0.9999 fine, and is most commonly expressed as "four nines fine." However, the acceptable purity standards for "Good Delivery" of a contract at the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) or the Commodity Exchange New York (COMEX) is the following:
- Gold Good Delivery: minimum purity of 995 parts per 1,000;
- Silver Good Delivery: minimum purity of 999 parts per 1,000.
